Course Overview

CHC51015 Diploma of Counselling reflects the role of counsellors who work with clients on personal and psychological issues using established counselling modalities. They use communication, micro-counselling and interviewing skills and draw on varied counselling therapies to assist clients. At this level, the counsellor will work in defined and supported counselling roles in established agencies rather than in independent practice.

Possible career opportunities for graduates include: Counsellor, Support Worker, Case Worker, and Health & Community Care Worker.

Graduates of this course will receive an internationally recognised Australian Qualification issued through TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275).

Delivery Mode

Training will be delivered in English, incorporating language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) support. Students must have reliable internet access and be able to use digital technology to complete the learning and assessment activities and access resources within this program. This can be through their device, internet connection, workplace, or regional APTC campuses.

Course Fees*

FJD 5,200. The fee includes stationery and uniform. Limited tuition fee waiver places may be available for eligible participants.

Entry Requirements

Citizenship

Citizen of a Pacific Island Forum country & Timor-Leste.

Experience

Have significant prior counselling experience (more than one year) or have a local qualification in counselling and limited relevant counselling experience (up to one year).

Assessment

Complete the Literacy and Numeracy Indicator and Vocational Knowledge Assessment.

Placement

It is expected that the student will be working in a paid or voluntary capacity as a counsellor whilst studying.
