APTC celebrates students’ achievements in Honiara

May 11, 2016

Over 45 students proudly graduated from the Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC) after successfully completing their training in 11 different programs in Honiara on 10 May.

The new graduates add to the increasing pool of more than 900 Solomon Island citizens who have graduated from APTC since the establishment of the college in 2007.

APTC is an innovative development project funded by the Australian Government, delivering Australian-standard skills and qualifications for a wide range of vocational careers for skilled workers across the Pacific.

Speaking at the graduation, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education in Solomon Islands, Dr Franco Rodie said vocational education and training (VET) opportunities for young people can help address high unemployment youth rates and provide an upskilled workforce to improve economic growth.

He added that APTC has made significant contributions in this regard, along with other local VET institutions.

The graduating class included 18 students who were awarded with Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification. This qualification is for professionals working in the technical vocational education and training (TVET) sector in training roles.

The program was delivered by APTC in collaboration with the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM) for officers in training roles in the public sector and state-owned enterprises.

APTC continues to work with industry partners. The college partnered with the Solomon Islands Small Business Enterprises Centre to deliver training in sales and marketing, book keeping and financial reporting.

APTC is also working with the Australian Government’s Skills for Economic Growth Program to support further development of the skills sector in Solomon Islands.

In addition to its campus in the Solomon Islands, APTC has campuses in Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

APTC is implemented by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275)
