"My aim was to increase awareness of APTC, directed primarily at the health care industry as well as community, health and youth organizations and the general public," said Shaz Ball, APTC Country Program Coordinator based in Vava'u.

"AIDS awareness was the main focus of the Vava'u Community Health Day, which took place November 29, although other health areas were also covered."

The Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker was newly elected Member of Parliament Vava'u 15, Dr ViliamiUasikeLatu, who was the Secretary of Parliament until the November 25th election.

Amongst the groups attending were the Ministry of Health, TFHA (Tonga Family Health Association), Vava'u Family Health Centre, Vava'u Family Health Stakeholder Committee, as well as groups such as VEPA (Vava'u Environmental Protection Association), Tonga Visitors Bureau, and youth groups. Shaz said that she appreciated having the assistance of APTC Alumni member, HinganoTe'ekiu, who helped set up and work at the APTC booth for the duration of the event.

"While we achieved the aim of gaining more visibility for APTC and the courses offered, it was an added bonus to support the community awareness of AIDS," concluded Shaz.
