FHTA and APTC collaborate for tourism growth

4 April 2024

The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) and the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to improve skills development and capacity building within Fiji's hospitality and tourism sector.

The MOA outlines a shared objective of building the capacity of hotel industry participants through accredited short courses. Both parties will contribute resources and expertise to implement activities to achieve this objective.

"We are excited about this partnership with APTC as it aligns perfectly with our mission to promote sustainable tourism practices and enhance skills development within Fiji's tourism sector," said Ms Fantasha Lockington, FHTA Chief Executive Officer.

“Through our partnership with the FHTA, we are dedicated to empowering tourism industry professionals with the skills and knowledge necessary for success,” said Ms Carmel Nee, APTC Regional Operations Director.

“Our collaboration will enhance the HOTEC event in October 2024 and open doors to broader opportunities, including regional competitions and accredited training. Together, we aim to elevate Fiji's tourism sector to global standards and achieve industry excellence,” she added.

Under the MOA, both parties will establish a Partnership Management Committee to oversee program implementation, ensuring efficient governance and regular monitoring of activities.

Additionally, joint marketing activities and collaboration on hospitality-related competitions and assessments leading up to FHTA’s October HOTEC Tradeshow will further enrich participants' learning experience and create the required awareness of available upskilling for new entrants into the tourism industry.

FHTA, recognised as the leading industry body representing tourism stakeholders, has decades of experience understanding industry trends and challenges and identifying workable solutions. It is also deeply committed to fostering sustainable tourism practices.

Through various initiatives, including training programs, industry research, and advocacy efforts, FHTA has played a pivotal role in supporting the growth and progress of Fiji's tourism industry.

APTC, funded by the Australian Government, operates as a program focused on creating a more skilled, inclusive, and productive workforce across the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

With a mission to enhance technical and vocational education and training (TVET) systems, APTC collaborates with partners to deliver high-quality qualifications and skill sets aligned with industry needs.
