VIT-APTC partnership signing

APTC and VIT renew partnership for quality standards and skills development in Vanuatu

Sep 06, 2019

The Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) and the Vanuatu Institute of Technology (VIT) renewed their partnership for quality standards and skills development in Vanuatu. This was confirmed with the signing of a partnership agreement focused on improving quality standards and employment outcomes for students in Vanuatu, developing VIT’s institutional capability, and sharing facilities.

The official signing follows a series of storian (workshops) since February between the two training institutions regarding the scope of a renewed VIT-APTC Partnership for 2019-2022. Also present at the workshops were representatives from the Vanuatu Ministry of Education and Training, and the Vanuatu Qualifications Authority, who expressed their support towards this renewed partnership.

The signing highlights partnerships as central to APTC’s approach in its current third phase, where both VIT and APTC strengthen their commitment to shared goals relating to TVET and skills development for Vanuatu.

Since first opening its doors in Vanuatu in 2007, APTC has graduated more than 1,900 Ni-Vanuatu nationals, of whom 54 per cent are women.

VIT’s acting Principal, Mr Jack Takalo, expressed his gratitude for the longstanding partnership.

“APTC is a well-recognised training partner for VIT in Vanuatu and we are pleased to witness another three-year partnership agreement as we work collaboratively and continue to deliver technical and vocational training in Vanuatu,” he said.

Mr Takalo also noted that funds have been earmarked within the partnership agreement to support training for females in non-traditional vocational areas.

APTC CEO, Ms Soli Middleby, said the signing is testament to APTC’s enhanced approach to achieving meaningful outcomes through partnerships, and that with the Australian Government’s support, APTC as a regional entity is committed to working closely to align training delivery to national labour needs.

“This signing highlights many years of partnership between APTC and VIT as we continue to share resources and raise the profile of TVET in Vanuatu. The number of APTC Ni-Vanuatu graduates is also a testament to the achievements made through this ongoing partnership,” Ms Middleby added.

The Australian Government, represented by Ms Christelle Thieffry, reiterated its commitment through APTC’s support for skills development in Vanuatu.

APTC’s Country Director for Vanuatu and Nauru, Ms Anna Naupa, and members of the VIT Board and senior management team witnessed the signing ceremony. APTC and VIT have been key partners since 2007, with APTC situated and operating within the VIT campus.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.
