Jun 04, 2019

The Australian Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) witnessed this week, another historical moment, the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement with the Motu Koitabu Assembly in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

The Agreement paves way for the APTC and the Motu Koitabu Assembly to plan and deliver Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways pre-vocational programs beginning with hospitality skills.

The partnership also establishes a coalition with the Port Moresby Technical College (POMTECH) to:

  • Identify people from the Motu Koita community to be trained and mentored in foundation skills
  • Mentor POMTECH trainers to develop a PNG accredited foundation skills programs
  • Align the APTC qualification with POMTECH’s National Certificate 1 and National Certificate 2 pre-vocational qualifications, in collaboration with the Department of Education.

APTC is also developing a training strategy that further focuses on identifying skill areas to increase employment opportunities for Motu Koitabuans in the nation’s capital and to access labour mobility opportunities under the Pacific Labour Scheme.

APTC is the most enduring aspect of Australia’s support to skills development in PNG and the Pacific having trained over 2,500 graduates from PNG and the Pacific since its establishment in 2007.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

APTC is implemented by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275)
