APTC’s Microcredentials to Boost Skills for PALM Workers
The Australian Government’s largest skills investment in the Pacific and Timor-Leste, the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC), is empowering Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme workers to upskill through fully subsidised microcredential courses.
The industry-endorsed, job-focused online modules offer convenient and targeted training directly accessible via laptops or mobile devices. The courses offer maximum flexibility for both employers and workers to learn at their own pace, fitting training around work schedules and in a mobile-friendly format.
Approved PALM scheme employers are encouraged to promote this opportunity and support their workers to undertake the microcredential courses and build the skills they need for the workplace.
“APTC's microcredential program is a significant step towards developing a skilled and adaptable workforce. The microcredentials provide Pacific and Timor-Leste talent with more skills and knowledge relevant to their work, and we’re proud to support their career progression in the PALM scheme,” said APTC Executive Director Nicki Baird.
Cara Philp, the Learning and Knowledge Manager of the Pacific Labour Facility (PLF), has reiterated that access to additional training, including APTC’s microcredential courses, is important for the successful reintegration of Pacific and Timor-Leste workers returning to their home countries. By addressing skill gaps, providing recognition of prior learning, fostering entrepreneurship and supporting cultural and social integration, these courses contribute to building a workforce that will drive the sustainable economic development of Timor-Leste and Pacific island countries.
