Congratulations, APTC Nauru graduates!

May 05, 2021

It's been an incredible journey of adaptation and self-discipline for APTC's Nauruan students of 2020, who have had to handle new remote learning practices whilst dealing with COVID-induced changes at home.

APTC, through the generous financial assistance of the Australian Government and support of the Nauru Government, proudly hosted the 2021 graduation ceremony for Nauruan students to celebrate the completion of their academic journey held on 19 March at the USP Nauru campus in Yaren District.

A total of 10 students, of which nine are women, were awarded an internationally recognised Australian qualification in Certificate III in Education Support (CHC30213) and Certificate IV in Leadership and Management (BSB42015). Amongst these graduates was Anais Namaduk, the only graduate with a Certificate III in Education Support, which she completed in Vanuatu in 2019 but was unable to graduate in a ceremony due to pandemic restrictions.

The Australian High Commissioner to Nauru, H.E. Angela Tierney, commended the graduates on their achievement.

The Hon. Deputy Minister for Education, Richard Hyde Menke, congratulated the graduates, particularly the nine graduates who now hold a Certificate IV in Leadership and Management. He encouraged them to be champions in the Nauruan Public Service and share their new skills and knowledge to support the Nauruan Government's service.

APTC Country Director for Nauru and Vanuatu, Anna Naupa, relayed her best wishes to the graduates and applauded their perseverance and effort in upskilling despite the changing situation due to COVID-19.

In response to the pandemic, APTC has been adapting its training delivery across the Pacific to address current international travel constraints and ensure classroom hygiene and prevention protocols meet national authorities' requirements.

Whilst international trainers have been limited due to travel restrictions, APTC has transitioned to delivering remotely where possible via virtual platforms.

Increasingly, blended delivery combined with remote trainers from Australia and on-island tutors is supporting skills development to meet labour market demands.
