This initiative will develop the capability of the Ministry’s managers and emerging leaders to ensure strong leadership and management strategies in the organisation. The training emphasises developing practical people skills, managing and leading a team, developing priorities and managing an operational plan. The first group of participants completed their training in Port Vila in May 2020, with further cohorts from Malampa, Sanma, and Tafea Provinces selected to complete the program throughout 2020 and 2021. In the program, participants learn how to - communicate effectively as a workplace leader - build workplace relationships and lead an effective, diverse team - manage people performance - develop work priorities - implement an operational plan - promote innovation and continuous improvement - manage risk and work health and safety Mr Roy Obed (VESP) made a special acknowledgement of the improvement he has seen from the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) component of the program – “*Learning from the Certificate IV Leadership and Management program has provided new structures, policies and procedures to increase the safety of students and staff in schools. This is an area where participants in the course often express they were unaware of the importance of WHS. Still, due to their learning, they understand their role and responsibility in ensuring schools are a safe environment for all.”* The outcome of this initiative will be the use of clear goal-setting and planning tools in all the provinces to enhance the education sector and its activities. This initiative supports the development of a sustainable workforce with the ability to lead and manage school initiatives, projects and tasks to achieve successful outcomes. Notably, the program sees a ‘whole of business’ approach, where standardised strategies will be implemented by all stakeholders in the organisation, resulting in a continuum and quality of processes that ensure more efficiencies for the education sector of Vanuatu. The *BSB42015Certificate IV in Leadership and Management* is an internationally recognised qualification certified under the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) training framework and issued by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275).
