APTC and DBTI renew partnership agreement

Nov 18, 2019

The Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) and Don Bosco Technical Institute (DBTI) - a key vocational training provider in Solomon Islands - renewed their partnership to deliver enhanced training and practical learning opportunities to students.

On Friday 20 September, APTC CEO, Ms Soli Middleby, and DBTI Rector, Fr Srimal Priyanga Silva, signed the agreement in Honiara, formalising the partnership for a further three years.

This renewed partnership builds on a positive foundation of respect and trust developed over six years of collaboration on technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

The shared objective of the renewed agreement is to “develop quality, empowered professionals who demonstrate the skills required to contribute to productivity and prosperity in Solomon Islands”.

The partnership focusses on increasing and enhancing training options to improve employment outcomes for students and to build the capability of staff from both organisations through joint professional development and training activities.

At the signing, Ms Middleby said the partnership would pave the way to deliver real outcomes for students in higher quality training, skills development, and employment.

“We are delighted to sign this partnership agreement with DBTI, one of the leading vocational training providers in Solomon Islands. This will open new opportunities for joint explorations in the area of technical and vocational education and training,” she said.

She further added that the agreement contributes to Solomon Islands’ human resource development for nation building through these joint quality training opportunities.

DBTI Rector, Fr Srimal, said DBTI was pleased to collaborate with APTC, to explore ways to work together on TVET and innovative projects across a range of disciplines and shared challenges.

“The agreement also provides an opportunity for our students to be involved in APTC’s programs and to take advantage of pathways to other training opportunities to develop their skills and knowledge through hands-on experience,” he said.

APTC and DBTI initially established a partnership in 2013. Since then both parties have collaborated and exchanged expertise in common areas of interest, with DBTI students obtaining Australian qualifications in hospitality and carpentry.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.
