Dec 20, 2017

The Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC) presented 13 employers with Certificates of Appreciation to acknowledge them for being ‘host employers’ for APTC’s special needs students who were on work placements.

These students were part of APTC’s Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways program, and graduated in November 2018.

APTC had introduced the pilot program for people with special needs to help enhance foundation skills development and prepare students for workforce entry and further studies.

During their work placement, students worked with host employers to acquire hands-on experience and further their industry knowledge for the purpose of securing sustained employment in the mainstream work force.

The certificates were presented by the Honourable Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Mr Jone Usamate, who acknowledged APTC for their effort in delivering the Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways program.

“As Minister, I am hoping for inclusive employment opportunities for all of our people, whether they are people with special needs, special abilities, our youth, our women and all those that tend to have more difficulties getting a job. I am also hoping that more employers can come on board and offer these kinds of placements,” he added.

The 13 host employers included: Asco Motors, Bright Little‐ Ones Children Service, Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee‐ (FASANOC), Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation, Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association, Fiji Revenue & Customs Authority, McDonalds Fiji‐ (Suva Restaurant), Merchant Finance Limited, Novotel Suva Lami Bay, Post Fiji Limited, Samabula Senior Citizens Home: Department of Social Welfare, SPBD Micro Finance Fiji Limited, Total Fiji Limited.

The employers were hosted to an afternoon tea function at APTC’s Pacific Fusion Restaurant at The University of the South Pacific in Suva.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.
