Australia, through the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) demonstrated its support to the Bishop Naramana Institute of Technology in Isabel Province, with a recent official handover of tools and equipment to enhance carpentry, construction and joinery training. Australian High Commissioner Rod Hilton said that “One of our shared goals is to foster more jobs contributing to economic growth that will also enable Solomon Islanders to engage fully in economic activities and live productive lives, which is why Australia’s support includes a strong focus on strengthening TVET. TVET provides the skills that form the backbone of any country’s economic growth and development.” The contribution is part of Australia's ongoing efforts to support training providers in the Solomon Islands to boost skills development and prepare students for rewarding careers in various industries. The equipment, including power tools, saws, measuring instruments, safety gear and 100 text books for carpentry and joinery, will support the students’ learning experience and provide them with hands-on training opportunities. Rose Apa, APTC’s Manager Operations, said APTC was proud to work with local partners in strengthening skills training in alignment with the needs of employers. "We are delighted to support the Bishop Naramana Institute of Technology in their mission to provide quality technical education. This collaboration is a testament to our commitment to skills development in the Solomon Islands, and we are confident that these tools and equipment will equip students with the knowledge and practical experience they need for successful careers in the growing infrastructure industry." Canon Jacob Pitu, Diocese Project Officer, ACOM said the collaboration with Bishop Naramana Institute of Technology has been benefiting the people of Isabel province, especially youths. "We are immensely grateful to the Australian Government through the APTC for their generous contribution. This partnership will undoubtedly empower our students with the necessary skills and expertise, ensuring they are well-prepared for the demands of the industry." The handover ceremony was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Development, Planning, and Aid Coordination team from Honiara, the Anglican Church of Melanesia, students, and the APTC.
