Mar 09, 2018

The Australia-Pacific Technical College (APTC) held its first of three graduation ceremonies for Solomon Islands at the Mendana Hotel in Honiara on 6 March 2018.

More than 100 Solomon Islanders received their qualification in 17 different programs at the ceremony.

APTC is a flagship program of the Australian Government that provides Australian-standard skills and qualifications across a wide range of vocational careers for skilled workers across the Pacific.

Since 2007, APTC has trained over 12,000 graduates, including more than 1390 Solomon Island nationals of which over 590 are women.

In his keynote address, the Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, His Excellency Mr Roderick Brazier congratulated the graduates for their hard work and achievement.

“Congratulations to all students, and their families, on this great achievement. You now possess the skills and training to take advantage of many new and exciting opportunities.”

APTC’s partnerships with the private sector and other educational training institutes were also recognised at the ceremony, including APTC’s longstanding relationship with Don Bosco Technical Institute (DBTI) that is providing DBTI graduates with a pathway to APTC qualifications. APTC also has partnerships with the Solomon Islands National University and the Skills for Economic Growth (S4EG), which is an Australian Government program.

In addition, APTC also supported the Project Management program that was delivered by TAFE Queensland for 10 Solomon Power employees. APTC has a partnership with Solomon Power that has enabled them to train their employees on an ongoing basis in Engineering - Mechanical Trade specialising in Diesel Fitting.

APTC will hold two more graduation ceremonies in Auki and Gizo respectively for students of the Certificate IV in Leadership and Management program, most of whom are women.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

APTC is implemented by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275)
