APTC-PNG unites for Australia Day

Jan 27, 2012

In Papua New Guinea, the National Day is celebrated in September and in Port Moresby, it is highlighted by the fabulous Hiri Moale Festival. Given the long and strong ties PNG has with Australia, the Papua New Guineans understand and appreciate the traditions and culture associated for the celebration on Australia Day.

Whilst there are no Lakatoi's (large canoe) catching the trade winds or dancers absorbed in their ancient drum beats, we do have such rich traditions for a Australian barbie which includes the burgers, "snags" (sausages), munching on pies and flying the Australian flag. APTC decided to spread the friendliness by holding an Australian Day barbie to mark the occasion.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

APTC is implemented by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275)
