First female tiler for Solomon Islands

Aug 12, 2011

Rose Mae is the first female student from the Solomon Islands to undertake training in Certificate III in Wall and Floor Tiling.

While in Fiji for the CPC workshop, Ms Nancy Palmer, APTC Country Coordinator for the Solomon Islands, took the opportunity to visit Ms Mae and her Trainer, Mr Neil Atkinson at the APTC Suva campus.

"It was a pleasure to meet Rose and her Trainer Neil. I was impressed by the whiteboard full of calculations that Rose and her classmates use to calculate the number of tiles needed for the arch doors," said Ms Palmer. "There were also arched doorways and mock bathrooms for the students to practice on."

"When Rose graduates, she will be the only qualified female tiler in the whole of the Solomon Islands," concluded Ms Palmer.

APTC is an Australian Government initiative in partnership with the Pacific and Timor-Leste.

APTC is implemented by TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275)
