Course Overview

The CHC42115 Certificate IV in Community Development reflects the role of community services workers who assist in the delivery of programs that contribute to the development of capacity through public social change processes.

Community Services workers work within a professional team under the guidance of others, supporting development within the community. Employment may be undertaken in organisations working across a range of social, health, environment, economic, arts and culture and recreation sectors.

This course is designed to specifically focus on project grant writing, developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating community projects in the Pacific.

This course suits individuals who are employed as Community Development Officers, Community Project Officers, and Recreational Community Workers.

Graduates of this course will receive an internationally recognised Australian Qualification issued through TAFE Queensland (RTO 0275).


Training Availability

The CHC42115 Certificate IV in Community Development is conducted at the APTC Campus – Port Vila, Vanuatu.


Course Delivery

Course duration is 22 weeks full time including a 1 week mid semester break. Training will be delivered face to face, 5 days a week including 120 hours of work placement. Training will be delivered in English incorporating language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) support and a work skills facilitation program. Additional out‐of‐hours study time will be required.


Entry Requirements

  • Must be a citizen of a Pacific Island Forum country.
  • Have significant prior industry experience (more than one year) in the area in which they wish to train or have a local qualification and limited relevant industry experience (up to one year) in the area in which they wish to train.
  • Complete the Literacy and Numeracy Assessment and Vocational Knowledge Assessment

Applicants may apply for recognition of prior learning.


Course Fee

The course fee is VT110,000. The fee includes stationery and uniform.

The Australian Government subsidises the cost of the course including materials and consumables.
